Dr. Cui is a computational biologist interested in the search for universal rules that govern biological systems — from ancient building blocks shared across the protein universe to the functional consequences of genetic variation. With expertise spanning machine learning, statistics, and genomics, her research uses ML models to decode how biological sequence gives rise to function. She currently develops functional representations of the human variome to resolve the causative genetics of human disease.
