I studied Biochemistry at Brandeis University, where I conducted research with Judith Herzfeld. Her work in physics, biology, and chemistry inspired my passion for interdisciplinary research. The idea of integrating various scientific fields, which pushes the boundaries of these disciplines, greatly satisfies my curiosity and creativity.
Driven by my passion to bridge the gap between computer science and biochemistry, I joined Emory University to pursue a PhD in Computational Chemistry. Working with Dr. Liu and Chen Xu, we developed machine learning models to predict the absorption spectra of organic molecules in various solvents.
The advent of large language models (LLMs) and their ability to perform new tasks in different fields with zero or few-shot training shocked my understanding of machine learning. I want to know how LLMs interpret knowledge in the biochemistry domain. Currently, I am working with Dr. Yana Bromberg to study protein language models (PLMs) to gain insights into how they can learn structural, functional, and evolutionary information from protein sequences.
